Congratulations guys! Thanks for the good times... Photos from this event will be posted on the New Lummer Land (Yes new!) coming soon... On that note, that was my final wedding of the year and #8... I have to admit that I was more than a little over whelmed.. Anyway, enjoy your Mondays and let me know if you're coming to The Roxy on Wednesday night so I can get you some tickets! Already a solid group so it should be a good one...

Team Safeway Splits... Again... - November 7, 2003
So we licked balls in the first match but rebounded to win our second... so... we stay on court #1. Yaayaa!

This Just In... Krispy Kreme Opening in Surrey - November 5, 2003
It's official, Scottsdale mall in Surrey...

The Weekend... - November 3, 2003
A busy one...

  • Friday - Trailer Park Trash! - Michelle and I went as Trailer Park Trash to a party out in Burnaby... we even brought our tent trailer and set that up as well!
  • Saturday - Huskies Win 42-10 Over Oregon! - It was cold and wet but a great game. Huskies were down 10-7 at the half and fortunately, the Huskies' starting quarter back got injured (He was terrible by the way) and the back up came in and did an amazing job. Thanks for the game Brhelle!

  • Sunday - Team Lummer Land Wins 101-79
    - It took us a while to get going but we eventually pulled away to an easy victory over the Eagles. Bed shitter will have to go to Navi as his checks were out playing him again... he only outscored them by about 20, he needs to work harder. MVP honours go to JP "Champ" Reimer for his Bob Cousy like dribbling skills.

Quote of The Weekend comes from the guy selling "Hot Chocolate" at the Washington Huskies game: "Luke warm chocolate here! Get your luke warm chocolate..." it was VERY cold out and by the time the hot chocolate got to the stands it was, well, luke warm...

Team Safeway Update From Dave Braun... October 31, 2003

Ok, I'm not big on blowing my own horn but ....

Six young kids from all across the lower mainland came together for an epic night against two slightly younger, faster, taller, more athletic teams (you may have heard of them - Cuba and Yugoslavia).

Safeway Squad:

  • Steve Hall (non-drinking or non-drunk anyways)
  • Mike Hughes (just landed a contract for work)
  • Greg Poitras (why crash block when you can try spinning around and block with the back of your arms)
  • Pat Bradley (Pat, I forgot "sock juice" tonight - he did send Jay during our break)
  • Jay "Power Tool" Edwards (10 kills - all off the block)
  • Dave Braun (young recruit looking to establish himself in the "big league")

Match # 1
Safeway vs ???
Safeway loses - 15/13 in the third
game 1 we stunk, but regrouped to make it a good match (several long rallies and Jay had at least 5 kills - clutch)

Match #2
SFU vs ???
SFU wins in 3 (snoozer)

Match #3
Safeway vs SFU
Side note: due to SFU's previous victory, Safeway could advance with a 2-0 victory
Safeway wins 2-0
A great performance by everyone (we were never behind)
Key to the victory: Steve did not have a beer throughout the night & Poitras had some beer during a timeout!!
SSSSAAAAFFFEEEWWAAAYYY!

During the team meeting and media frenzy that follow there was much speculation over the much needed personnel changes to help make the Safeway team a competitor day in and day out. I don't want to start any rumors but McP's days in a Safeway jersey may be numbered!!!!!!
Peace out!

Happy Halloween! - October 31, 2003
Hope you get lots of candy...

  • Friday - Costume Party - Getting dressed up... but possibly not the usual Don King... stay tuned.
  • Saturday - Huskies Game In Seattle - Heading down to Seattle overnight to catch a Washington Huskies game...
  • Sunday - Start Of Division 1 For Hoops - Tip off is @ 6:30pm and all games from now on should be tough as the teams in Div 1 are really strong.

Two Buffalo's To Report... Scales... & Scales! - October 29, 2003

Buffalo #1 - The Roxy

I had my regular Thursday night volleyball league while the boys were at Scalesy's getting liquored up to send the Commish on his way. I met up with them at about midnight at none other than the Roxy. Scales had been holding a drink in his right hand for quite some time. Sure enough, when he had a full drink, he took a baby sip with his right hand. I pulled the universal Buffalo sign above my head. He was not pleased. After a bit of taunting by JP "Champ" Reimer, gentlemanly taunting of course, he downed his drink.

Buffalo #2 - Char's Wedding

It was a lovely fall day in Richmond and the "Rowdy Table" consisting of Michelle, Shana, Andy, Brhelle, Nish, Birdman and Scales was sitting at the back of my sister's wedding reception, getting absolutely liquored. It was after dinner and Brian had a glass FULL, right up to the rim, of Vodka and whatever else, in his right hand... I thought, no, not twice in 3 days...? Sure enough he took a sip and it was done. The horns came out yet again and it was done.

Twice in three days, priceless!

The Weekend... - October 27, 2003
Here's the scoop...

  • Thursday - Team Safeway Terrible... -
We were all absolutely pure garbage as we dropped the first set in three (After winning handily in the first game) and then lost in an embarrassing two in the second set. We were all bedshitters and no one was the MVP. Totally Brutes!
  • Friday - Rehearsal Dinner! - We had 80 people over at our place for dinner and it was quite the feast! Thanks to Kathy Shanahan for putting it all together.
  • Saturday - Char & Lee Got Married! - First and foremost I would like to congratulate Charlene and Lee from Lummer Land. It was a fantastic day, thanks guys! Check out www.nectardesigns.com for more information.

  • Sunday - Team Lummer Land Wins 115-90 - Our defensive rebounding was suspect but we managed to score a ton of points so it didn't matter. Pat Bradley was the game's MVP as he "broke the seal" (Scoring seal that is) while Navi was the bedshitter as he got worked by some guy wearing orange shorts. With that win we are guaranteed to move up to the A-Division where we will meet up with none other than Ron Putzi, Richmond High All Star.

So... Here's The Weekend Guys... - October 24, 2003
I sit here at 3:30am trying to give you a posting as I just rolled in from The Roxy....

  • Friday - Rehearsal Dinner - Just another dinner for my sister's Wedding.
  • Saturday - Charlene & Lee's Wedding - Yes, my sister and Lee are getting married today... check out www.nectardesigns.com for more info. The Good Dr. designed that site...
  • Sunday - Team Lummer Land Takes on The Flying Cows - Apparently they are very small so it shouldn't be too difficult to pull off a victory... but you never know.

We Didn't Get Lost!!! - October 20, 2003
We got through the weekend without getting lost once! Woo hoo!!! Anyway, here's how the weekend went...

  • Friday - UBC Men Drop 1-3 to Lewis (2003 NCAA Champions) - The UBC men put up a good fight but a rusty Lewis, and over rated, squad managed to put the boys away in 4. It was a good effort but they were simply too much.
  • Saturday - Troy & Alison's Stag - Partied in Richmond and ended up at The Foggy Dew... photos from the event might (I say might because Char is getting married this Saturday and The Good Dr. may be pre-occupied with wedding shit) be posted later this week.
  • Sunday - Team Lummer Land Wins a Squeaker 99-96 - We managed to come back and win a tough game against Triple Threat. Randi was the MVP with some solid shooting while The Good Dr. was the bedshitter due to not being able to defend the taller guys posting him up. BRUTES!

Quote of The Game comes from The Good Dr.: "FUCK!!!!". After getting posted up twice and scored on twice I had to vent just a little and yelled very fucking loud. I should have had those guys post me up last week in the bush and the searchers would have found us in no time!

The Weekend... - October 17, 2003
A couple things...

  • Saturday - Troy Miller's Stag - Not sure what's on the menu but we're going to be out and about... Troy & Alison (Preston) are getting married on November 8th.
  • Sunday - Team Lummer Land Takes On Triple Threat - They're 4-1 so it should be a good game... tip off is at 7:30pm.

Team Safeway Goes 1-1 Again... - October 17, 2003
We managed to pull out a win against the SFU boys in the first set but we were out matched by McNutz's team as we were playing 5 guys and one drunk (Steve Hall) against 6 good players. On that note, Steve Hall was clearly the bedshitter (Or do we blame beer?) while Mike Hughes was the MVP (He had a great chair toss by the way!). Jude Popp also played exceptionally well.

The Weekend... - October 14, 2003
Interesting shall we say...

  • Friday - Lost In Port Moody... - If you haven't already heard, Michelle and I ran out of daylight and ended up getting lost and had to be pulled out by Coquitlam Search & Rescue (Who were amazing by the way). We made the call at 6:00pm and they found us at 11:00pm. We got down around 2:00am and there was conveniently a Global camera guy there. Check out the video to see the Good Dr. in action... Thanks for finding us! I will also be holding a fundraiser at none other than The Roxy in mid November, possibly November 12th, so be sure to book it off and come out and support a good cause...
  • Sunday - Turkey Dinner - Over ate... just the right amount for Thanksgiving! Hope you guys had a great long weekend.

Quote of The Weekend comes from Jeff Dolan via email: "Hey Lummer, I was waking up from a nasty hangover and I noticed a familiar voice on the TV. I looked on the TV and it said, 'Eric Lum, Rescued Hiker'. I thought, good job Lummer, rescued a hiker... oh wait..." I wish Dolan! By the way, Happy Birthday!

The Long Weekend... - October 10, 2003
A couple things... Mike Ross is having a party and then we're heading out to Dicks on Dicks for Xavier... and family dinner on Sunday. Other than that, no hoops for Thanksgiving Sunday so enjoy your long weekends folks.

Team Safeway Goes 1-1 - October 10, 2003
We actually put a couple good matches together last night even though we let our last game slip away... Oh well, we're staying on court #1. Bedshitter would have to go Mike Hughes for his "interesting" set selection... scenario: Tight game, front row, Greg Poitras, Jude Popp and Jay Edwards... let's go to Edwards three times in a row! There were no MVPs as we only won one of our two matches.

The Weekend... - October 5, 2003
Was up in Vernon all weekend for a nice little wedding. Good times... The mini van was huge, thanks George!

Team Lummer Land Wins Again - October 5, 2003

Team Lummer Land easily beat the MP Ballerz 107-88, even with the absence of the Good Dr. According to Pat Bradley, he was the Bed Shitter and Megan Dalziel was "easily" the MVP.

The Cougar
- Away for the winter... sleep well...

Team Safeway Goes 2-0 - October 3, 2003
Well, we managed to bounce back from last week's losses and went 2-0... could have been due to the lack of alcohol consumption but we're not entirely sure... Anyway, Jay Edwards was the MVP while no one was the Bed Shitter as we all played well. Aside from that, I'm off to Vernon this weekend for a wedding so enjoy your weekends folks! We've got hoops on Sunday at 3:00pm and it's doubtful The Good Dr. will be on the road by 10:00am to make it back in time...
